Introduction
I am Dan Bennett and I am a candidate for State Representative for the 13th Essex District.
I am the owner of Dan Bennett Real Estate established in 1999 which is located in Danvers.
Before entering Real Estate I was a Buyer for Rich's Department Stores and before that with Almy's Department Stores.
I am serving in my second term as a Danvers Selectman. I also serve as Vice chairman of the Board of Trustees at Essex Agricultural and Technical High School.
My wife Janet and I are parents of 3 grown children and 4 grandchildren.
I am running for State Representative because I do not like the direction our State is heading. I am running because I want our children and grandchildren to have the same opportunities we had.
We must return fiscal sanity to Massachusetts without simply resorting to new taxes.
We can find ways to save money and control spending.
Some examples are:
We can consolidate our state government. There are over 100 state agencies that administer more than 1,000 licenses, certifications, permits and registrations. We should bring all these responsibilities into one office to encourage consistency and oversight.
We can lower health care costs for our cities and towns by allowing municipalities to join the state's Group Insurance Commission. This can save $100 million.
Reduce construction costs by increasing competition. Public construction projects should be open to all bidders. Open competition can save the tax payers $75 million to $100 million
We can simplify our State Government if we run it like a business and control costs and eliminate duplication.
We must restore integrity and accountability to public office. We must eliminate patronage.
We can change the direction our State is going with a common sense approach and more balance on Beacon Hill.
My campaign is dedicated to predictable fiscal responsibility, sound management, new leadership and being your voice on Beacon Hill.
My oath and promise to you is to be responsive to your needs, always ethical in my actions and above all to serve the public good.
